Our Story
In the early 2000s, a unique form of creative art emerged: painting plaster figurines shaped like animals or cartoon characters using paints and brushes. This activity, typically enjoyed in places known as "plaster fun houses," was also called "figurine painting" or "plaster painting." However, as mobile phones and computers became more prevalent, figurine painting quickly faded from view.
After the COVID pandemic, people began seeking activities that didn’t involve screens, which sparked a renewed interest in figurine painting in some countries.
Vietnam was one of the first places where this art form reemerged. Figurine painting can now be enjoyed in bookstores, cafes, on the streets, or by the lakeside, where street vendors provide small plastic stools for participants. It’s a shared experience where people swap life stories and let their creativity flow.
Now, we’re bringing this activity back to Australia.
Figurine painting offers a chance to slow down and take a break from digital distractions. It has been shown to have positive effects on mental health—one of the core inspirations behind Pigment Squad, a DIY store dedicated to plaster figurine painting. Here, everyone can enjoy a fun, relaxing experience without needing special skills or supplies. Each painted figurine becomes a unique work of art that reflects your emotions, personality, and creativity.
